FEATURED PROJECTS

2017.2-2017.5 (16 Weeks)

FABRICATION EXPERIMENTAL GLASSHOUSE
Research Pavilion

Berkeley, CA, US

This is a research pavilion which is focused on the bending
technology. We tried to fabricate the pavilion in a flat state and
bend to the curved state which is exactly our target shape.
We developed the possibility of hot-wire cutter machine to
cut the foam to fit the ruling we designed and the shape we
need. Using the fiber glass to shape the corrugation, we can
bend to the exact shape we want. Inspired by the sandwich
structure in the nature we can make the shape stable.

2017.2-2017.5 (16 Weeks)

PLANT FIBER ENCLOSURE: ORIGINS
nATURAL ARCHITECTURAL mATERIAL AND DIGITAL FABRICATION RESEARCH INSTALLATION

Berkeley, CA, US

Fertile generations of enclosures made from plantfibers can be traced back to the very origins ofconstruction. After we researched on the principleof weaving technology and developed a 3D printerto a 3D weaver, we designed for a suilt installationof a human nest that will implement manual and3D printing/ 3D weaving strategies. The final nestwithdraws principles of structural efficiency in aviannest architectures.

2014.5-2014.7 (8 Weeks)

READING IN THE URBAN-FOREST
Gudun community library

HANGZHOU,CHINA

The Gudun is a compact district where has the greatest population density and the least greenbelt density. Most of the people living there are the rural migrant workers. The project was designed for fixing the gap between the workers and the urban society.  It should be a communication center which can let the two groups of people know each other  better and also a promotion center.

2013.11-2014.1 (8 weeks)

Hidden drawings
Chinese painting and calligraphy museum

Hangzhou, china

The Xixi Wetland is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Hangzhou, China. The atmosphere of the graceful scenery is just like the artistic of the traditional Chinese water painting. The museum tries to figure out how to convey the artistic of the painting through the painting-like scenery and how to deal with the certain location which is just between the artificial urban area and pure nature areas.

2016.10-2016.12 (8 Weeks)

SOFT RIGIDITY
Pure Vault Structure Research and Mock-up

Berkeley,ca

This structure used soft material to achieve a high rigidity. The way to achieve the goal is to use vault structure and change the orientation of the force flowing. By designing a smart connection detail the whole structure can stand stably.

2015.10-2015.12 (8 weeks)

HOPE IN SHIPWRECKS
Rescue Equipment design

Hangzhou, china

Ocean is dangerous, especially when a sudden shipwreck happens. People may die because of drowning, hunger, dehydration, cold, or even attacted by ocean animals. There may be a long time for rescue team to get to the survivors. However, lifeboats in ships are limited and occupying spaces. I tried to figure out a solution to these problem. As an architect, why can't I design a temporary refuge which can save lives when these adversities happen.

2015.2-2015.7 (16 Weeks)

nature as architect
eco-city system research design

HANGZHOU, CHINA

It a thematic research & conceptual design project. Nature is the best architect in the world. She creates so many amazing structures and  charming spaces in the world. What's more, the "architecture" she designed and constructed has the most practical and effective form and structure. And they are absolutely Eco-friendly. In this project, I would figure out how the nature form a city and how the system run effectively in the urban system. I will "invite" the nature to design an urban prototype in Hangzhou in an 150 m*150 m site.

2016.10-2016.12 (8 weeks)

bio-inspired facade ii
BIO-INSPIRED BISTABILITY STRUCTURE research

berkeley, ca

This project intends to explore kinetic architectural facade system inspired by the bistable geometry of a carnivorous plant, the Dionaea Muscipula. The plant stores energy which allows for a rapid geometric transformation enabling it to trap it’s prey.  To mimic this aforementioned mechanism, the bistable panels are employed to construct a climatic responsive glasshouse facade, controlling moisture levels and avoiding corrosion of mechanical hardware.
